About SPARK
Society as we know it has lost its flame. But all it takes is a SPARK to re-ignite it. The challenges we have faced throughout this pandemic have helped uncover a new appreciation for the things we may have taken for granted, particularly the arts, which is something many of us turned to through the national lockdowns, for entertainment, sanity and to keep us grounded. The pandemic has left us feeling disconnected from one another and unable to express ourselves. SPARK aims to revive the arts community through our online festival.
At Liverpool John Moores University, we as students do not see this as a restriction, but as an opportunity to ignite the spark and reconnect our community. We’re here to provide exactly what you’ve been missing. The magic and imagination that the SPARK festival experience brings are fuelled by the passion of creatives, ready to rekindle their craft, which you can experience from the comfort of your own homes.
SPARK Festival's goal is to use the arts to spread positivity and help people stay optimistic during these uncertain times, as a reminder that we will return to normality as a stronger community.
Building on a long tradition that has seen LJMU Drama Graduates go on to significant careers worldwide throughout the performing arts industries, including a number of companies founded and operating in Liverpool and the North West, our annual festival provides the focus for all our provision and aims to present new frameworks for both existing texts and original creations. All our work focuses on practice informed by theory and depth of understanding, and whether we are actors or stage managers, producers or technicians, directors or writers, singers or dancers, and indeed staff or students, we are all part of a community that is passionate about telling stories through theatre and about learning how to get better at doing it. If you are coming to share in our work welcome from and to our family!
